Lone Star Antique Tractor & Engine Assn

Minutes of Meeting, February 7, 2008

The Lone Star Antique Tractor & Engine Association met n February 7, 2008, at Traditions Restaurant in Tyler at 7:00 p.m. with 45 members and 2 guests present.  Bob Kindig led the opening prayer.

President Charles Parmley opened the meeting, with a welcome to guests Jim Grigsby and his wife along with new members of the club.  The minutes from the previous meeting were approved as read.  The treasurer’s report was approved as circulated to the members with $9022.91 in the general account and $3235 in the scholarship fund.   Ray Glasscock had a question regarding net profit of the concession.  Charles then read the amounts from each of the functions occurring at the show, indicating that $660 was net profit from the concession.   In conjunction with the scholarship expenditures, Charles reported that the club had received a letter from Tommy Peel thanking the club for his scholarship and reporting his grades for the fall semester as well as his registration expenses for the spring semester.  Charles circulated to the club members present the grades from both scholarship recipients, Brandon Robertson and Tommy Peel.

Charles then gave a state of the club report, highlighting accomplishments for the past year, including the capital improvements to the show grounds and functions in which the club participated.  He then asked for a membership report from the secretary.  The secretary reported that we ended the year with 83 members.  Charles then added that 27 people had been added to the membership beginning with the September show.

Charles then asked our guest Jim Grigsby for information regarding the Canton Swap Meet.  It will be held April 12-13.  There is no charge for tractors exhibited, but there is a fee of $30.00 for a space for anyone planning to sell items.  Tractors may begin moving in on Friday, April 11.

Charles asked for a report from Ray Glasscock concerning the trail ride.  Ray reported that he had driven a tentative route in the area around the State Railroad that runs from Rusk to Palestine.  However, he reported that many of the roads are actually dirt roads along the river and may not be desirable, especially if there had been any moisture.  Some actually parallel the river’s edge.  He recommended that for this spring we consider the same route around Lake Tyler that we had gone in previous rides since the roads are all paved and there are locations along the way to stop for restroom breaks and for lunch.  The departure would be from the show grounds at 10:00 a.m. with return to the grounds at 4:00 p.m.  The club voted to keep the same trail ride route for this April trail ride event.   Discussion followed regarding possible dates for the ride, including information regarding the trail ride in Louisiana.  Sherman William moved to have the trail ride on April 26.  The motion carried.

The next item of business was the election of new officers.  President Charles Parmley presented a letter from Charles Ellison, chair of the nominating committee, with a list of nominees for offices as follows:

President Charles Parmley

Vice President – Stan Kindig

Vice President of Promotions – Ed Snider

Secretary – Carrie Jo Parmley

Treasurer – Renae Howard

Historian – Rena Snider

Charles asked for nominations from the floor.  Robert Gee moved and Sherman Williams seconded that we elect the above named slate of nominees by acclamation.  The motion carried.  Sherman then asked for a round of applause for the officers that serve the club throughout the year.

Charles then mentioned the 2008 Farm Collectors Directory and stated to club members that the directory would have a ¼ page advertisement regarding the South Central EDGE&TA meeting that would take place in conjunction with our September show.  He reminded members that they could order copies of the directory if they were interested.  He had an order form for those who wanted to order.  He also reported to the club again briefly on his trip to Oklahoma to the EDGE&TA show in September 2007 and stated that he did not think our club would have any problem hosting the show.

In conjunction with our sponsorship of the EDGE&TA show in September, Charles asked Ray Glasscock, Chair of the Arrangements for the out-of-town guests to report

Charles then asked for member concerns.  There was no discussion.

Upcoming events included Glen Rose Winter Tractor Show & Pull, February 8-9 at Glen Rose, Tractor Show & Pull, February 23 at Alvarado and Tractor Show and Swap Meet April 12-13 at Canton.
