Lone Star Tractor & Engine Association

Minutes of August 2006 Meeting

The Lone Star Antique Tractor & Engine Association met on August 3, 2006, at the show grounds in Whitehouse with approximately 30 members present.  The minutes of the July meeting were approved as read.  The treasurer’s report in the amount of $6,728.58 in the general fund was approved after a motion by Bill Hood and second by Joe Hoffman.  There had been no activity in the scholarship account since the July report.

New items of business included the following:

The Jacksonville Rodeo Parade had issued an invitation to club members.  Bob Youngblood and Nathaniel Knowlton indicated they would attend the parade.

Our tractor club display at TSC will be August 12 starting from 8:00 a.m. to approximately 2:00 p.m.   We will set up a tent for the display.  In addition to tractors, Dick Watson will bring a tent and his stationary engines. Tonya Nutt inquired about bringing a picnic table that her family was donating to the club for either the auction or raffle.  The club agreed that Tonya could bring the table and sell raffle tickets at the TSC display as well as at the show.   Tonya will bring a tent and the table to both TSC and the show.

Charles Parmley passed around a list for those interested in displaying tractors at the East Texas State Fair September 28-30 so that the list could be provided to the Fair for distribution of tickets.    He also announced the date of October 21 for the Rose Festival Parade.  Another announcement was that Jeff Holland had moved to Hemphill to accept a teaching position, but that he would continue to manage our website and attend functions as possible.

The sample button for the show with the tractor picture was passed around for club members to examine.  The button was accepted as the official representation for our September 2006 show.

Since the club has several youth who want to drive tractors, Charles explained the Youth Driving Certification Program through EDGE&TA to members.  Forms are available on EDGE&TA website.  They must be completed and signed by the club Safety Officer prior to submittal to EDGE&TA.

Charles also passed around donation forms to provide those who make donations to our show documentation of their contributions.

Several items were discussed regarding the upcoming show.  Truman Powell suggested that we read the insurance policy that the club has under EDGE&TA and check to see if it actually covers what we need.  Willie Clark asked if there had ever actually been any accidents or anyone killed during one of the shows.  Dick Watson and several other members were aware of the situation where the steam engine exploded and killed several at a show in the Mid-West.  Also, there was an accident in a parade with a small tractor where a man had run over and killed his wife.  It was agreed that safety issues are important.  In discussing the safety of the pull, Shorty mentioned that there are some things they can look for in tractors such as fluid leaks, proper attachment of weights, etc.

Charles then asked for reports from the different committees for the show and requested that they ask for any additional assistance.

Dick Watson reported on the distribution of brochures, showed the poster he has for display for TSC, and mentioned several means of advertisement.  Doc Fletcher is going to make some radio commercials for Radio Station 104.1 where he does his own business commercials.  They will be aired a week or two prior to the show.  Dick also presented some items as ideas for the auction.

Specific items for the show will be the responsibility of the following people:

Bill Hood will get the PA system for announcing the tractor pull.

Elaine Hood will have horses for painting by children

Brad Hood will provide the barrel train which will be driven by Brandon Robertson

or another licensed driver and member of the club at scheduled times.

Willie Clark will handle getting a water truck to spray the grounds.

Bob Youngblood has a First Aid Station planned with a canopy, sign, fire extinguishers

for the grounds, first aid items and a registered nurse

Bill Jernigan is contacting ETMC to get emergency personnel/vehicle on the grounds

Dick Watson will have a plan for all of the events, indicating the location for each

Donnial Trimble will handle getting tables and chairs for the barbecue

Charles and Dick Watson will hang the banner advertising the show at the road the week

    prior to the show

Robert Gee will handle the gates for both visitors and participants

Bill Hood will spend the night at the grounds Friday and Saturday night

Ray Glasscock reported that the concession would be ready by show time

There was a question regarding getting a jumping house for the children.  Several members reported that in the past when we had a jumping house, it proved to be very dangerous in that the kids almost turned it over several times.  Following the discussion, there was no action to rent the jumping house.

Other items mentioned included hanging banners for those businesses that donate to our show.

Ray Glasscock reported another item of business.  Charles Ellison, another club member, had received information regarding an antique wooden thrasher that would be donated to the club, but it was in Bozeman, Montana and the club would be responsible for getting the thrasher from Montana to our site.  Ray gave the dimensions of 11 ½’ high and 8’ wide and information that it must be moved by mid-September. Discussion followed with no definite decision because of the expense of such a long trip; however Willie Clark stated he might be able to haul it.

There being no further business, the meeting adjourned.

Respectfully submitted,
