Lone Star Antique Tractor & Engine Association Minutes

of Meeting April 5, 2007

The meeting of the Lone Star Antique Tractor & Engine Association met at Spring Creek Barbecue on April 5, at 7:00 p.m. with 37 members present.  Bill Hood led the opening prayer.  President Charles Parmley called the meeting to order.  The minutes were approved with the correction that the South West Regional EDGE&TA show should be changed to South Central Regional EDGE&TA Show.  The Treasurer’s report of $9,293.37 in the regular fund was approved with a motion by Charles Ellison and seconded by Willie Clark.  There was no formal report on the scholarship fund, but Linda Sue Bayless announced there had been no activity since the report in February.

President Charles Parmley announced that the caps that the club had ordered were here.   The caps are available from Ed Snyder for $10.00 each, not to be sold to any one except club members.  Shirts are also still available for $12.00 each.

Charles announced that he had sent out 42 letters to the Ag Science teachers in Smith and all adjoining counties.  The scholarship awarded will be in addition to the current scholarship for Brandon Robertson.

Charles also announced that Tonya Nutt had made DVD’s of our 2006 Show and they are available for $1.00 each.

A special guest, Frank Miller, presented a workshop on battery maintenance which included a question and answer session following the presentation.

Charles announced that the Canton Swap Meet was underway.  Tractors will enter the north entrance on Hwy. 19 to the Trades Day grounds at Canton.  There are signs on the highway marking the entrance.

Charles announced events that are upcoming including the Whitehouse Yesteryear Parade June 23 and the Jacksonville Rodeo Parade July 10.

The club tractor trail ride is April 14.  Ray gave an update on the travel route around Lake Tyler.    The trail ride will depart our show grounds in Whitehouse at 10:00 a.m. and return at 4:00 p.m.  It will be an identical route to the one we took last year, with lunch at the picnic area behind Camp Tyler.  Bill Hood will cook the food for the group, Willie Clark will acquire the Porta-Potty and handle driving the tractor to pull the trailer for the Porta-Potty.   Slow Moving Vehicle signs must be placed on each tractor.   Also, members were asked to bring fire extinguishers.  Shorty Bayless and Glen Griffin will provide the truck and trailer with tow ropes, chains, tools, gasoline, water, and other necessities in case of breakdowns.

Linda Sue Bayless announced that she has someone in Troup who may want to provide the barbecue for our show.  Also, she’d like to invite a local Country Western Band to perform at specific times during the day.

Charles announced that there had been some suggestions for safety for the show including a designated loading area with the possibility of a ramp for loading and unloading.   After several comments, Charles asked members to think about the issue.

The question of a sign for the pull sled was discussed.  Linda Sue Bayless is going to check on the cost for a sign with the name of the club and the logo on it.

Charles asked members to be thinking about the show.  Next month at the meeting we will organize committees.

With no further business, the meeting adjourned.

Respectfully submitted,
